The Diploma in Restorative Dentistry (Level 7) is one of our flagship qualifications, combining the Restorative Course and the Operative Course into one advanced programme. It is designed for dentists who want to develop both their clinical knowledge and their hands-on skills, giving you the confidence to manage more complex restorative cases and take your dentistry to the next level.

The programme consists of 35 modules delivered through a mix of seminars, live demonstrations, practical training, and interactive online teaching. With 21 face-to-face training days and 14 online modules with webinars, demonstration videos and live Q&A zoom sessions, the Diploma blends theory and practice to create an immersive learning experience. Each stage of the course is carefully structured so that you can learn new techniques in depth, practice them on Phantom Heads and manikins under expert supervision, and return to your clinic able to apply them with confidence the very next day.

You will explore the core principles of restorative dentistry, covering areas such as occlusion, articulators, TMJ splints, endodontics, periodontics, and treatment planning. Alongside this, you will refine your operative techniques under the close mentorship of Professor Tipton’s expert team of demonstrators. Training includes anterior and posterior tooth preparations, bonded and ceramic crowns, porcelain inlays and onlays, direct composite restorations, gold preparations, and bridge preparations.

The Diploma is not only about technical skills but also about developing the deeper understanding behind treatment choices. You will learn to integrate theory with practice, applying evidence-based knowledge to everyday clinical situations, and building the confidence to diagnose, plan, and deliver a wider range of treatment options for your patients.

By the end of the programme, you will have both the academic depth and the practical ability to achieve predictable results in restorative dentistry. Duration of Course:

Delegates have two options for earning their Diploma. They can complete both courses side-by-side, finishing within approximately 12 to 18 months. Alternatively, they can pursue the Diploma by completing the individual certificates one after another, achieving their Diploma in approximately 24 months.

The Level 7 Diploma in Restorative Dentistry consists of 11 units delivered across 35 modules. 21 days will be face-to-face involving seminars, lectures and hands-on practicals on phantom heads or table top models. The remaining will be delivered online via  webinars, demonstration videos & live Q&A zoom sessions.

Restorative Learning Outcomes

Unit 1: Principles of Occlusion

Professor Paul Tipton is an internationally acclaimed Prosthodontist who has worked in private practice for more than 30 years. He is the founder of Tipton Training, Europe’s leading private dental training institution and the author of over 100 scientific articles for the dental press. A passionate and charismatic speaker, Paul has been teaching for over 30 years, both in the UK and internationally.

He was voted one of the ‘most influential dentists in the UK’ by his peers in Dentistry Magazine in 2013 and in the top 3 dentists in Aesthetic Dentistry’s 25 poll, November 2012. 

In 2021 Prof Tipton was voted one of the “World’s Top 100 Doctors” by the Global  Summits.

In 2022 Prof Paul Tipton was amongst the few awarded for the “Dentistry’s Top 50 Dentists 2022”.

Most recently in November 2022 Professor Paul Tipton won the Kimberley Finlayson ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’ in recognition for his outstanding contributions to private dentistry and dental education.

Professor Tipton qualified from Sheffield University in 1978 and in 1982 opened his own referral practice in Manchester. He continued to build his skills, studying at Eastman Dental Hospital in London, where after 2 years of study, he obtained a Masters Degree in Conservative Dentistry in 1989. In the same year he started teaching on the University of Manchester’s MSc in Restorative Dentistry. He is now a lecturer on their MSc programme in Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry and also lectures at Kings College London (LonDEC).

In 1991 Professor Tipton founded his private dental training academy, Tipton Training. During this time, Tipton Training have successfully trained over 5,000 dentists and this number continues to rise year after year.

In 1992, Professor Tipton was awarded an honary Diploma in General Dental Practice from the Royal College of Surgeons of England and was appointed a member of the British Dental Association’s Independent Practice Committee. In 1999, he was certified as a Specialist in Prosthodontics by the General Dental Council.

Professor Paul Tipton is on the editorial board of Private Dentistry Magazine, Restorative & Aesthetic Practice and Implant Dentistry and is a medical writer and part of the advisory board at Expert Beauty Magazine and ‘Woman’s’ magazine. He was a founding member and on the Board of Directors of the British Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry and the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.

He is currently the President of the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry and was recently elected Fellow of the International Academy of Dental Facial Esthetics (IADFE).

Dr Adam Toft is a highly accomplished dental clinician, educator, and mentor with over 30 years of experience in restorative, aesthetic, and orthodontic dentistry. He holds a BDS with Honours from the University of Sheffield, following an earlier Honours degree in Chemistry, and has continually expanded his clinical and academic expertise through postgraduate qualifications including an MMedSci in Restorative Dentistry, the MFGDP(UK), an Honorary Diploma in Aesthetic Dentistry, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education. He is also a Founding Fellow of the British Association of Restorative Dentistry (BARD).

As Principal of Cavendish Dental Care in Chesterfield since 1998, Dr Toft leads a well-respected multidisciplinary practice known for ethical, patient-centred care. He combines general dentistry with advanced clinical work in complex restorative cases and full-mouth rehabilitations, including collaborative treatments at the T-Clinic in Manchester alongside Professor Paul Tipton.

Dr Ash Rayarel is a highly respected clinician, educator, and mentor with over three decades of experience in dentistry. A graduate of the University of Manchester (1989), he has consistently pursued professional excellence, holding an MSc in Aesthetic and Restorative Dentistry, the MFGDP(UK) qualification, a PGCert in Medical Education, and, most recently, a Fellowship with the College of General Dentistry (2023).

Dr Rayarel’s career has been defined by an unwavering commitment to teaching and mentorship. For more than 30 years, he has supported the development of both undergraduate and postgraduate dentists. He serves as Clinical Director of the Operative Dentistry course at Tipton Training — the UK’s largest private postgraduate dental training academy, which has trained over 5,000 dentists worldwide. As one of Tipton Training’s most experienced and respected lecturers, he has been instrumental in delivering high-quality education across the UK and internationally for over 15 years. Dr Matthew Holyoak

Dr Matthew Holyoak is an accomplished clinician, educator, and thought leader in the field of restorative and aesthetic dentistry, with a career spanning over three decades. He holds a BDS from the University of Glasgow, a Diploma in Restorative Dentistry from the Royal College of Surgeons of England, an MSc in Restorative Dentistry from the University of Leeds, and is a Fellow of both the College of General Dentistry (UK) and the International Academy for Dental-Facial Esthetics (USA).

Until his retirement from clinical practice in 2025, Dr Holyoak was Principal Dentist at Woodlands Dental in Lytham St Annes, where he led a private practice with a strong focus on cosmetic and advanced restorative dentistry. Over the course of 30+ years, he built a reputation for delivering high-quality, ethical care, particularly in smile design, composite restorations, minimally invasive ceramics, and implant-based rehabilitation.

Education and clinical mentorship have always been at the heart of Dr Holyoak’s career. He currently serves as Clinical Director of the Certificate in Aesthetic Dentistry course at Tipton Training, where he leads the design, delivery, and continuous development of the programme — ensuring it remains aligned with the latest clinical advancements and educational standards. Professor James Prichard

Visiting Professor and Programme Leader, MClinDent in Endodontology at BPP University working with the City of London Dental School.

Professor Prichard is a renowned teacher in Endodontics, delivering hands on courses, lectures and seminars throughout the UK and overseas. He has held the posts of Associate Clinical Teacher, Clinical Teaching Fellow and Clinical Supervisor in Endodontics on the Masters Programme at The University of Warwick prior to joining BPP University in London as Visiting Professor and Programme leader for the MClinDent in Endodontology. He has published in the scientific journals including the International Endodontic Journal, The British Dental Journal and Endodontic Practice.

He has lectured at several conferences including the British Dental Association annual meeting and the British Academy of Restorative Dentistry. Subsequent to his qualification in 1994 James established a successful endodontic referral practice in his home town of Coventry and, after relocating to North Devon with his family in 2013, takes endodontic referrals from dentists in the South West of England. James is a Key Opinion Leader for several endodontic companies and has demonstrated the latest advances in endodontic technology for Schottlander and FKG Dentaire at the Dental Showcases and Dentistry Show since 2004. He gained his Masters Degree (MSc) in Restorative Dental Practice with distinction for his dissertation which he completed at The Eastman Dental Institute in London. He has been awarded a Fellowship from the International Academy of Dental Facial Esthetics in New York and has recently gained his Associate Fellowship from the Higher Education Authority as part of a post-graduate teaching certificate in professional education.

Dr. Warren Martin

Dr. Warren Martin graduated from the University of Birmingham in 1993 and immediately entered general practice. In 1994 he was awarded a Licentiate in Dental Surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Warren’s interest in developing his clinical skills further has seen him combine working in practice whilst travelling across the world to study and train with world renowned restorative experts and some of the biggest names in dentistry today. Having started to implement new techniques he also sought further qualifications to heighten his knowledge of restorative dentistry.

In 2003 after two years study, Dr Martin graduated from the University of Manchester with a Masters Degree in Prosthodontics. Following which, he proceeded to teach the undergraduate students and supervise research projects within the University Dental Hospital.

Towards the end of 2004 Warren was elected as a member of the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh before returning to University of Manchester in 2008 to undertake the mono-specialty training in Prosthodontics.

Since 2004 Dr Martin has been the owner and principal dentist at Greyholme Dental Suite just outside Cheltenham and has recently taken up a teaching position on the Masters Degree program in Fixed and Removable Prosthodontics at the University of Manchester Dental Hospital.

I qualified from Sheffield in 1987 and moved to Kent in 1994, working at his current practice since 1998, becoming a co-owner in 2002 and achieving Denplan Excel Accreditation in 2004.

For over 20 years I have sought out the best teachers in the world in cosmetic, reconstructive and functional dentistry to gain the skills that I now offer patients at Sturry Dental Practice in Canterbury, Kent. I created the exclusivesmiles.co.uk brand to showcase the best that modern dentistry has to offer. I also provide sessions at Sittingbourne Memorial Hospital for Medway Community Healthcare as a Dental Officer treating special needs patients.

As a previous full member of the British Academy of Cosmetic dentistry (BACD), I have experience in treating all type of cosmetic problems from simple tooth whitening to full smile makeovers. In the past I have been a member of the BACD membership, communication and congress committees. I have a reputation for a conservative approach to dentistry that will offer long term aesthetic results from the minimum of intervention; this can be seen with my use of various brace systems to align teeth prior to a final makeover.

I have a special interest in the treatment of head, neck and facial pain and its relation to poor jaw function and am a member of the British Society of Occlusal Studies (BSOS) which exists to help practitioners treat and prevent these common problems. Membership is by invitation only to practising dentists who have completed an arduous training programme which typically takes five years. I have lectured on the subject to other dentists and technicians and provided hands on courses on Facebow use and jaw registration.

I am an “opinion leader” for Ivoclar Vivadent and lecture and tutor hands on courses for them on Composites, Cements and tooth preparation for the Emax ceramic system.

I like to help people to understand what dentistry can offer them and as the No1 ‘Active Dentist’ on the award-winning patient education website All About Teeth (allaboutteeth.co.uk), spend time answering the public’s questions regarding their dental concerns. I am also a member of the Association of Dental Implantology UK (ADI, visit adi.org.uk), a registered charity dedicated to providing the profession with continuing implant education and the public with a greater understanding of the benefits of dental implants. I am a full member of the Tipton Training Dental Academy which provides me with the latest dental scientific knowledge and clinical techniques. Dr. Hugo Grancho Pinto

Hugo is a registered specialist in periodontics with the General Dental Council and he focuses his clinical practice around the diagnosis and treatment, both nonsurgical and surgical, of gum disease, aesthetic periodontal surgery and implant dentistry.

Hugo qualified as a dentist from the University of Lisbon, practiced general dentistry for a couple of years and has been working in private practice in the areas of periodontology and implant dentistry exclusively since 2006.

Hugo competed a 3 years full time Specialist Training Program in Periodontology and Implant Dentistry in Lisbon. He has a Diploma in Clinical Periodontology from the Gothenburg University and completed a Post-Graduation in Implant Dentistry at the Oral Rehabilitation Institute, in Lisbon.

Hugo is an academic clinical lecturer in the postgraduate program in periodontics at the University of Manchester. He was a lecturer in the Periodontology Department in the University of Lisbon until 2008. He also lectures nationally and internationally on periodontics and implant dentistry.

He is an active member of the British Society of Periodontology, American Academy of Periodontology and Portuguese Association of Periodontology and Implants.

Outside dentistry he loves spending time with his wife and kids and enjoys playing tennis and travelling around the world

Dr Andy Carragher

Dr Andrew Carragher has 25 years experience in Private and NHS Practice, including 21 years as owner and principal of his own clinic.

He completed the Tipton Training courses early in his career and went on to complete a Master’s Degree in Prosthodontics where he discovered his passion for teaching and went onto become Senior Clinical Teacher in Restorative Dentistry at Liverpool University Dental Hospital.

During his 12 years in that position, Dr Carragher has taught hundreds of students the fundamentals of restorative dentistry and guided them in clinical practice. He is now senior lecturer with Tipton Training and specialising in advanced composite techniques.

You can choose any options you feel suitable as Tipton Training has a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) policy which will ensure that your existing education within another Tipton Training course is taken into consideration. It is important to note that every time you do a Level 7 Diploma or a Level 7 Certificate you must pay additional registration fees.
