During 25 years in General Dental Practice , 21 years of which were as a sole principal, I have experienced all facets of UK dentistry from exclusively NHS practice to exclusively Private practice.
From the very beginning of my career I have been keen to improve my skills and knowledge. My commitment to postgraduate education ultimately led to a Master’s degree in Prosthodontics. This in turn led to a major career change when just six months after graduation I became a full-time Senior Clinical Teacher in Restorative Dentistry at Liverpool University Dental Hospital.
In this role over the last 12 years I have taught hundreds of undergraduates the fundamentals of Restorative dentistry and supervised the same students on clinic from their first ever patient until the day they pass their final examinations.
I have a special interest in Aesthetic dentistry and have taught on the Crown Course since 2006. Together with a colleague we founded an Advanced Composite Techniques course for senior students.
This year a student whose entry I supervised was chosen as the UK National Winner and is due to compete at the Global Final of the DENTSPLY Sirona Clinical Skills Competition in Konstanz Germany this June.
I have great enthusiasm for teaching dentistry performed to a high standard which can be predictable and long lasting. More importantly, for our patients such treatment can be transformative in terms of confidence and self-esteem.
I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experience with postgraduate students looking to take their practice of dentistry to the next level and beyond.
